Ursa Major (shown left) is our Overdrive season robot. Ursa’s frame is made out of 20×20 Item material, and he rides on a pair of AndyMark wheels. Its front wheel is different depending on when you see it. On some days, it’s a simple furniture slider. You know, the things you put under your big heavy dresser when you want to move it across the room. But on other days, it’s a pair of caster wheels that you can find on the bottom of your office chairs. Ursa’s main goal was the same as all NASCAR drivers; to drive… in a circle… the fastest. It was built for speed, not comfort.
Young Major gave us a lot of grief for its size, but a lot more fun. I mean, besides setting the record amount of laps at the Wisconsin Regional (12) and being an Alliance Captain on laps alone, we could sit on him and drive him like a car. Ursa gave many a ride or two.
But now, Ursa Major sits in a junkyard, rotting away with all the other useless items no one wants. Just kidding. Actually, it’s in someone’s garage, waiting to be used for demonstrations, a visual aid for learning, or someone who just wants to feel cool and ride on a robot. But wherever it is, we know that it is waiting to be taken out around January, in all its awe and glory, and be crashed into a wall by some curious freshman.
This is no longer the case. Unfortunately, Ursa Major has passed on. See Jebadyeah for more information on that.
