This year’s electrical hardware team (Adam, Bryan, Neil, and myself) has been making loads of progress this season. With a 1:1 rookie ratio, the two new members caught on to everything at an extremely fast pace… partly because of our amazing teaching skills and also because of their awesome intellect (mostly from the latter =] ). We have kept ourselves busy with projects such as encoders, gyro sensors, counter switches, solenoids, designing the driverstation, encoder/joystick functions and of course…. wiring the whole robot! The wiring of the robot occured Feb. 6th, and included loads of neon, rainbow colored ty-wraps (my favorite kind =] ). With last night’s robot run, it can be described as nothing less than a success.
Throughout the season, we have also undergone many learning sessions (engineer story times) with our electrical engineer mentor, Jeff. These topics have included encoders, PWMs, current, electrical noise reduction, and many more. These have helped our team truly understand the concepts of the electrical hardware instead of just putting it together by the directions and hoping it works.
The next two weeks should include wiring of the pneumatics and finalizing the switches used on both the driverstation and the robot. We also hope to protect our wires from being ripped off or cut in half by other unsuspecting team members. (yeah, we’re guarding our wires like a hawk). Hopefully our work will pay off in the next few weeks as we prepare for Sussex, demonstrations, Regional Competition, and beyond!
